Magenta HR Consulting

For HR consultancies, investigation providers and in-house teams

Senior ER capacity you don't have to rewrite.

Most firms that use associates have had the same experience. The case comes back and it needs rewriting before it can go anywhere near a client.

I'm Samantha Newton, a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD with 25 years in Employee Relations. I take the whole case: scoping it, interviewing the people, chairing the hearing where that is what you need, and writing it up properly. Under your brand, to your process, and it comes back finished.

I am instructed by HR consultancies, by specialist investigation and mediation providers who need an independent investigator, and directly by organisations that need someone from outside the business to run a case properly.

What I take on

The difficult end first

Bring me the cases nobody in the team wants. That is what I am for, and it is where I am worth the money.

Workplace investigations

Allegation to report. Conflicting evidence, credibility findings and a clean evidence trail that stands up on appeal.

Grievances and appeals

Including grievances against directors and owners, and appeals where someone genuinely independent is needed.

Disciplinaries and dismissals

Chairing or advising, from first concern through to a defensible outcome.

Bullying and harassment

Complaints handled properly, including the employer duty to prevent sexual harassment.

Performance and capability

From the first honest conversation to a capability outcome that holds.

Absence, including long-term

Short-term, persistent and long-term, with the disability and discrimination questions handled properly.

Redundancy and restructure

Business case, consultation and exit, including TUPE. UK and Ireland, having led an Irish restructure through to compliant redundancies.

Settlement agreements

The commercial and people groundwork before the agreement is drafted.

And the rest of it

Cover and project work too

The hard cases are what I lead with, but not every associate job is a crisis. If you need an experienced pair of hands while your own team is at capacity, or a project delivered that nobody has time to lead, I can pick that up as well.

Generalist cover

Maternity, sickness and holiday cover

Contracts, handbooks and policies

Day-to-day HR advice lines

Overflow when a deadline lands badly

Project work

Workforce planning and task analysis

Organisational design and restructure

TUPE projects and due diligence

HR audits and policy overhauls

Manager training and coaching on conduct and performance

Mentoring your junior consultants and HR advisers

The project work draws on the operational restructuring I did in-house before consulting. It is not what I lead with, but it is 25 years of HR and I am not precious about it.

How I work as an associate

Your client stays your client

Your brand, not mine

I work as an extension of your firm. Your templates, your scripts, your process, your letterhead. The client deals with you.

The whole case, not just the write-up

I scope it, run the interviews, hold the difficult conversations and chair the hearing if that is what you need. The report is the last step, not the job. Whatever the piece, it comes back ready to issue rather than as a draft for you to fix.

I stay in my lane

I handle the HR and ER process. Legal questions go back to you or your client's solicitor. No treading on toes, no poaching, ever.

Straight about capacity

If I cannot give a case the time it needs, I will say so before I take it, not halfway through.

Conflicts checked first

I run my own client base, so I check for a conflict before I accept anything. If I already act for the other side, or for a direct competitor where it would be awkward, I will tell you and decline. You find out at the start, not later.

Work that has been tested

I have prepared witness statements and my investigation reports have been used in tribunal proceedings. I have not given oral evidence at a hearing myself. I write every report on the basis that someone hostile may read it line by line.

Your data, handled properly

Case files kept only as long as the matter needs, on UK-based encrypted storage, then returned to you or destroyed on your instruction. Special category data treated as such.

No surprises on timing

You get a realistic date when I accept the case, not an optimistic one. If a witness goes off sick or the client delays, you hear it from me before you have to ask.

I run the case

And what lands on your desk at the end

Writing it up is a big part of the role, but it is not the role. By the time you read a report from me I have scoped the matter, interviewed everyone, weighed the evidence and, often, chaired the hearing.

This is the standard the finished document meets, whether the case was an investigation, a grievance or an appeal. If any of it is missing, it is not finished.

01

Terms of reference, agreed before I start

What I am investigating and what I am not. Agreed with you in writing, so scope cannot drift and nobody is surprised by the outcome.

02

Allegations set out separately

Each one stated plainly and dealt with on its own. Not a narrative that leaves the reader to work out what was actually alleged.

03

Structured interview notes

Taken properly, sent to the witness, and signed or commented on. Not my recollection written up afterwards.

04

An evidence schedule

Every finding tied to the document or the statement it came from, so anyone can follow the trail without asking me.

05

Credibility assessed where accounts conflict

This is the part most reports skip. Where two people say different things, I say which I preferred and exactly why.

06

Findings, with the reasoning written out

On the balance of probabilities, reasoned in full. A finding without the reasoning is an opinion, and it will not survive an appeal.

07

A recommendation, or none

If the decision is not mine to make, I do not make it. I set out what the evidence supports and hand it back for your client to decide.

08

In your template, ready to issue

Your format, your branding, your house style. It should not need rewriting before it goes to the client.

What other consultants say

Handed their own clients over

“I brought Sam in to represent my consultancy on a complex TUPE transfer. The client couldn't tell the difference, seamless, flexible and closely aligned with my approach. Deep HR expertise with a genuinely human touch.”
Laura Mathews
HR consultant, on bringing Samantha in to cover her own client
“A fantastic experience working with Samantha as an HR associate. Incredibly efficient and always timely with her responses, with impressive HR knowledge that made the whole process smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend her.”
Karen Mitchell
HR consultant
“One of the most capable ER specialists I've encountered in my career. Pragmatic, thorough and grounded in deep expertise, she brings clarity and structure to even the most complex cases. For managing organisational risk or serious, high-stakes cases, I would not hesitate to recommend her.”
Patrick Enright
Business owner

Check any of it

None of the above is worth much if you cannot verify it. Every one of these is independent of me.

Rates

Priced to the job

Day rate or hourly, depending on what the case actually involves. A full investigation and covering a single hearing are not the same job, so I do not price them the same.

Tell me what the case involves and I will give you a number the same day. Rates come down for regular supplied work, where the volume justifies it and I am not carrying the cost of finding the client.

Invoiced monthly. £1 million professional indemnity insurance in place. Happy to work to your associate agreement and NDA.

Capacity

Honest about it

Two days a week is kept for associate work, alongside my own clients. Supplied casework and direct clients balance each other out, so this is a deliberate part of how I run the business, not spare time.

If I cannot give a case the time it needs, I will tell you before I take it. A case handed back late is worse for you than a case I never accepted.

Got a case that needs someone senior?

Send me the outline and I'll tell you straight away whether it's one for me, and what it would take.

1

You send the outline. A paragraph is enough.

2

Same day, I tell you whether it is one for me, what it would cost and when I could start.

3

NDA signed, terms of reference agreed, and I begin.

And it works the other way too. If something comes to me that is not mine to take, whether it is outside my capacity or outside my specialism, I would rather pass it to someone good than sit on it.
